Help me communicate - Helping children and adults with rett syndrome
"Help me communicate" is a Scottish registered charity our registration number is SC042264 we are regulated by the office of the scottish charity regulator (OSCR) who ensure,

that "Help me communicate" works fairly and honestly.

Our charitable objectives are : The aim of the charity is to provide retts sufferers with the provision of comunication equipment to in turn provide them relief of their difficulties caused by retts syndrome. The charity will be specifically dedicated to communication aids, as retts syndrome makes its sufferes silent. The charity aims to provide ongoing relief to families and if Help me communicate is successful with its initial scottish group we would like to offer help to the Uk community of retts sufferers.
Our financial year ends 31/03.

I founded this charity in honour of my daughter Shona who has retts syndrome, she is four years old. Sho Sho is unable to walk, she puts her hands into her mouth constantly and is unable to grip or use her hands in any way.
The only method Shona has to use her hands is to bash down with little accuracy. Shona is unable to speak with words although she makes noises and laughs out loud !
However as all retts families will understand, We know that shona knows everything !
Retts sufferers have a knowing look, intelligence and understanding. I know that Shona has favourite songs, books and people. I can tell this because of her expressions and her ability to communicate to me using her eyes. I believe that it is only fair to ensure that Shona and the other families in Scotland have every chance to communicate with their children. To allow their children, teenagers and adults living with retts the ability to access expensive communication equipment that they may never be able to afford.
Expensive is such a broad description, I believe £200 for a battery operated button is surely expensive ! Yet i have seen my daughter bash switches to hear her favourite song and laugh her little heart out. Or to bash a switch and make a toy move, or to bash a switch a tell us she needs something ! When we talk about the Eye gaze devices, I pads and computer technology allowing our children to communicate, we are talking about considerably more, I dont expect the average family to have a spare ten thousand lying around !
Lots of us fund raise regularly to buy our children equipment to support their daily living. In days when families have to fight for everything from the local authorities there is never a better time to Donate to Help Me Communicate.

Please contact me for more information about our charity, I will be happy to answer any questions.
